PROACTIVE TEAM WORK

Thierry Regnault, deputy manager at CMN Yachts overviews the project.

“The words ‘teamwork’ and ‘proactive’ are often used automatically in describing the process of building a luxury yacht but for CMN the journey in building ‘Slipstream’ embodied these words in full.

Looking back over the period from first meeting with the client to the handover, many milestones were achieved. A unique set of circumstances allowed CMN to use the ‘sister ship’ ‘Netanya 8’ as a full size mock-up so, as the design and layout considerations for ‘Slipstream’ developed, we could use temporary materials including actual furniture to illustrate how the various layouts would work. Of course we had the Catia 3D software system available to show the client the interior layouts but having a full size yacht in-build available as a ‘live’ mock-up tool was an extremely useful facility”.
Thierry continues with an overview of the ‘Slipstream’ project and the people who drove this successful project to a spectacular conclusion.

“The client asked CMN and Andrew Winch to prepare a proposal for two yachts based on the 58m ‘Bermie’ (‘Netanya 8’) project but integrating specific requirements. The brief had these specific points:

• A sleek look
• Addition of an owner’s terrace on the fore main deck with a sofa and a private access door to the panoramic lounge of the owner’s suite
• Addition of a panoramic open/close dining room on the aft bridge deck
• Integration of a cinema in the bridge deck lounge
• Integration of a gymnasium on the bridge deck aft of the captain’s cabin
• Integration of a large dining table and a BBQ on the sun-deck

The client was focussed on the yachts being ‘best in class’ and this went well beyond the design process, keeping a watchful eye on the investment process which included the hull being extended to 60m.

The Burgess team, including Mark Tanner, worked closely with the ‘Slipstream’ captain Phil Stevens developing the technical specification assisted by CMN project Manager Mathieu Koechlin.

Commenting on the pivotal role of Burgess in the development of the two yachts, Thierry adds
“After the confirmation of the sale of the second MY in March 2006, Burgess asked us to report any suggestions we may have which could be worth proposing to the owners of Slipstream and Cloud 9. We already had a long list of minor items related to experience of the construction of Bermie, operations of the Yacht and access for the maintenance of equipment. After further thoughts and calculations, we proposed a larger hull with fixed bathing platform and increased depth in order to accommodate a full height service deck under guest and crew cabins.”
